This button should be selected in case the item you wish to reference does not fit the norm.  For instance, if you wish to reference an article from a book, it will probably need to be handled differently than an article from a journal.

Once the "Special Case" button is selected, a field is shown where you may enter the text of the complete reference, exactly as it is to appear in a reference list (the normal title, authors, etc., will be ignored).  When you are finished, click on the "Finished Special Case" button.  When then is done, note that the "Special Case" button is highlighted to remind you that this card is a special case.  If you change your mind, just remove all of the text in the "Special Case" field and the card will be treated in the normal manner.
